This semester course is designed to introduce the student to several health areas to inform, educate, and increase awareness of topics of interest to today’s teenagers. We will define and discuss health and wellness, personality, self-esteem, stress, violence, human reproduction, alcohol and drug abuse, dangers of tobacco and infectious diseases including STD’s and HIV/AIDS. Noninfectious diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer as well as a chapter on first aid will also be studied.

P.E./Fitness (710)

The Fenster P.E./Fitness program is divided into four components: (1) cardiovascular endurance, (2) muscular strength, (3) flexibility and (4) muscular endurance. The disciplines utilized to achieve these goals are weight training, spinning (stationary cycling), power walks, and calisthenics. The ropes course challenge is also utilized to work on problem solving, teamwork and building self-esteem. A new addition to our Physical Education curriculum will be Yoga. This Yoga experience is designed to build strength and flexibility, learn proper breathing techniques, and to enhance students’ ability to concentrate.
