What parents should know about our
boarding school program:
The Fenster Boarding School is located
in Tucson, Arizona.
We endeavor to help parents whose teens
are:
-
Not fulfilling their academic
capabilities due to a lack of
motivation
-
Having a difficult time with family
rules
-
Doing fine in school but not fitting
in well at home for a variety of
reasons
-
In need of an ESL program
-
In need of a boarding placement
because their parents’ work overseas
-
Wanting to earn college credits
while in high school
Using our structured academic and
behavioral systems, our goal is to see
our students earn all the core credits
necessary to gain acceptance to
virtually all of our nation's colleges.
Because parents need our boarding
school's structure at various times, we
enroll students whenever necessary
during the school year.
Parents receive communication and
support through weekly progress reports
about student's academic and behavioral
progress. At our boarding school in AZ,
we follow a practical approach based on
matching the consequence with the issue
at hand. We do not believe in suspending
students back to their parents.
Vital elements of our program are:
-
Weekly grade reports are sent to
parents and hence give the school a
powerful motivation tool because the
“perks” that teens desire are
granted based on effort,
accountability and responsibility
-
Mandatory tutorials by teachers
Monday through Friday after school
as deemed necessary
-
Mandatory study tables 7 nights per
week as deemed necessary
-
Small class sizes
-
A belief in make-up and extra credit
work as legitimate ways to bring up
grades whenever a quiz or test has
gone poorly
-
Self-esteem building via daily
recognition about the
accomplishments of our teenagers
An overwhelming majority of our boarding
school students choose to make their
lives at Fenster rewarding by responding
in a positive manner — thereby reaping
the benefits that come with responsible
academic effort and citizenship:
allowance, trips, recognition, high
grades, solid friendships, happier
parents, growing self-esteem, etc. etc.
-
Stressing daily the benefits of good
choice making
-
Recognizing and honoring students as
we see motivation take hold
-
Seeing to it that attempts at
manipulation dwindle
-
Expecting and getting punctuality
-
Pointing out regularly the
advantages of positive peer groups
choices
-
Creating a solid team consisting of
parents and the school to let
students know that success is their
only option
-
Using a reasonable set of rules and
a common sense philosophy that says
simply: When you choose to violate a
rule, just pay the price and get a
fresh start.
Fenster's boarding school structure and
college prep curriculum offer students
the opportunity to take courses for high
school and college credit. Earning
college credit while in high school
gives Fenster students the opportunity
to begin college with some educational
requirements already met.
